Alesha is a true go-getter—she wasn’t about to wait for a green light for her career. She wanted to work toward re-entering the workforce and pursuing an in-demand job in Traffic Control. With her proactive approach, it’s no surprise she’s now on track for something great.
Alesha, a mother of six kids, saw the perfect opportunity to take the leap and re-enter the workforce when she connected with our team in Palmerston.
She teamed up with Bamara Support Mentor Edith to begin her journey, and since then, the pair have worked hard to get Alesha job ready.
Edith helped Alesha gain multiple qualifications to set her up for various jobs, laying the foundation for a variety of job opportunities. She also assisted her with getting access to technology, which helped her apply for jobs and attend interviews.
Alesha attended numerous interviews, each one signifying a step closer to her goal and reflective of the progress she has made. She and Edith would celebrate each one together, regardless of the outcome.
Along the way, Alesha developed a strong interest in working in a trade, inspired by her parents both working careers in the construction and plumbing industries. She discovered the traffic control sector, which offered a wide range of opportunities. This sparked her passion and gave her a clear goal to pursue.
“I was already somewhat of a traffic controller with six kids – It felt more me than any of the other jobs we tried. I like being on the move, on my feet,” Alesha said.
After attaining her Traffic Management-TCI TMI1 Combined Skill Set, she was itching to get out there and start working. With her confidence and her go-getter attitude, she reached out to a local civil works company, and asked them directly if she could work for them. Within days, she had locked in an interview and following its success, is set to start work this week!
When Alesha received the call with the good news, she couldn’t wait to share it. She immediately called everyone she knew to spread the word that the right opportunity had finally come her way.
But, the person she was most excited to tell was Edith.
“It was high-fives all around!” Edith said, “I’m so happy for her. She’s a confident and proactive person, and so deserving of her success.”
Alesha is excited to start her journey in the Traffic Control Industry. Her long-term goal is to gain more experience and eventually advance to traffic control on railways.
Meanwhile, Edith continues to provide ongoing support through the Parent Pathways service to ensure Alesha has a smooth transition into her new role, offering guidance and encouragement as she embarks on this exciting new chapter.
“I’m so happy to finally have a job,” Alesha said, “I can’t describe it. It’s like your first day of school. You’re just so excited.”
Congratulations to Alesha on all of her hard work and determination!
