Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA) and Bamara have formalised a new partnership aimed at improving retention and completion rates for First Nations apprentices and trainees across New South Wales.

Through a newly signed MOU, ASA and Bamara will work together to ensure apprentices and trainees receive the most appropriate and culturally safe support throughout their training journey.

The reciprocal agreement means that apprentices and trainees who engage with ASA, and then decide to use Bamara’s Specialist Services, will receive continuity of service backed by the terms of the MOU. In return, Bamara clients who do not identify as First Nations and select ASA as their Provider benefit from a structured process agreed upon by both organisations.

“We’re committed to ensuring that First Nations apprentices and trainees receive the best possible support to succeed,” said Lee Xavier, CEO of Apprenticeship Support Australia.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to best practice and putting the needs of the apprentice at the centre of everything we do. Even in a competitive environment, providers can come together with a shared goal and help apprentices succeed”

“We’re excited about our mutual dedication to providing the proven support and guidance that apprentices and trainees require to thrive,” said Lesley Zarb, CEO of Bamara.

“This partnership strengthens our commitment to providing effective, trusted, and culturally safe support for apprentices, ensuring a successful and rewarding career path that they and our communities can be proud of.”

While ASA and Bamara have worked together informally since contract announcements, this MOU cements a consistent referral process and clear feedback channels between the two organisations, ensuring seamless handovers and timely support.

The collaboration has already seen positive results, with around 80 apprentices and trainees referred between the organisations to date.

ASA and Bamara are both Apprentice Connect Australia Providers, contracted by the Australian Government as represented by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to provide Australian Apprenticeship Support Services to prospective and current Australian Apprentices, and Employers of Australian Apprentices.
