Today, 7 September, is Father’s Day – a day to celebrate fathers and the significant men in our lives and reflect on their dedication and strength. This Father’s Day, we’d like to celebrate the success of Jayden, an Indigenous man and dedicated father, whose determination has helped him realise his goals and build a brighter future for himself and his son.
In January 2025, he reached out to our Tamworth team and joined the Parent Pathways service after a friend recommended he check out the service.
Jayden has an acquired brain injury and hearing difficulties, which can sometimes make it harder for him to pick up new skills right away. However, his determination and willingness to give everything a go have been key to his progress, and he continues to approach each new challenge with resilience and optimism.
With the support of Kelly, his Parent Pathways Support Mentor, Jayden began mapping out a plan to earn his HR licence and pursue a fulfilling career.
Covered by his individual fund, Kelly helped him access a Heavy Rigid Licence course to help him gain valuable experience and organised his logbook and Hazard Perception test.
When the big day came to test for his HR licence, Jayden faced a minor setback; he lacked the experience required to obtain his HR licence. However, Jayden didn’t leave empty handed and obtained his MR licence instead.
While this seemed to knock him down at first, after a pep-talk with Kelly, he was able to re-frame his perspective. Obtaining his MR Licence will get him many steps closer to obtaining his HR licence, and opens up opportunities for employment where having an MR licence is a requirement.
“I rang him up when he passed and celebrated on the phone with him. I’m so proud of him for following through and getting there,” Kelly said.
Getting his MR licence helped his confidence surge and he is more motivated than ever to forge ahead towards his long-term goals.
Now, he continues to work towards getting his HR licence while looking for local employment. In the long term, he’s keen on working interstate when his son is older.
We’re proud to celebrate his achievements this Father’s Day, and we wish him continued success as he builds a future full of promise for himself and his daughter.
