On Thursday, 26 February, we celebrated the graduation of a tight-knit group of participants completing our Career Transition Assistance (CTA) course in Dubbo.

The group of three dedicated Dubbo locals attended the course ready to upgrade their skills and boost their employability.

Over the course of four weeks, guided by their CTA Facilitator Maddie, they got more than they bargained for, uncovering new goals, gaining new skills, and emerging with a renewed sense of self-confidence.

From identifying transferable skills to learning what makes a compelling cover letter and taking part in mock interviews, the trio embraced every opportunity.

They were open to trying new approaches, stepping out of their comfort zones, and pushing through barriers, particularly with technology, with a positive can-do attitude.

Now, at the end of the course, each participant leaves with a clear path forward.

One participant, Carlie, identified an interest in working with people living with disabilities in the Support Work sector and is now setting off to attain her NDIS clearance and her First Aid certificate.

Another participant, Leanne, has identified a multitude of transferable skills, and will take these learnings and newfound confidence towards her long-term goal of studying and working as a veterinary nurse in Sydney.

A standout from the group is Tim, whose confidence has sky rocketed. He has pushed through his barriers with technology, including computers and phones, and is ready to dive back into labouring work, with an interview lined up with a local livestock market.

What these three dedicated participants had in common was their shared admiration for their CTA Facilitator Maddie, who was there with them for each phase of the journey to assist, offer guidance, and lead them in the right direction for their long-term goals.

“Maddie was brilliant, and patient. I really appreciated her,” Carlie said.

“I thought I knew a lot already, but I definitely learned a lot and didn’t leave empty handed, thanks to Maddie,” Leanne said.

Maddie beamed with pride for her participants as they reflected on their achievements.

“I’m so proud of them. I see direction and initiative in everyone. The world is their oyster and there is a place for them where they can find their passion,” Maddie said.

Congratulations to these three participants on their resilience and commitment to building a bright future for themselves. We look forward to seeing where the journey takes them.
