Since connecting with Bamara in 2019, Donesha has shown that when you’re supported to pursue your goals at your own pace, you can achieve amazing things.
Based at our Palmerston office in the Northern Territory, through our Parent Pathways service, Donesha has been supported by Senior Support Mentor Edith since the very beginning of her journey.
When she first connected with us, she was a new mum navigating life with her first child, learning how to balance her new role as a parent with her own aspirations for the future.
“I had a lot of shame at the time. I didn’t know who to talk to or what questions to ask. It was hard to figure out how to juggle everything and to find all the answers,” Donesha said.
Edith and the team were there to support her through her journey, allowing her to explore new opportunities at her own pace.
Over the years, she continued to grow in confidence while raising her family and welcoming two more children.
Fast forward to 2026 – Donesha was determined to make this her year.
With a clearer vision for her future, and practical steps detailed in her Goal Plan, in early February, she set out to achieve her driver’s licence – and she did it!
Getting her licence was an incredible display of the confidence and independence she has built for herself, and she celebrated with a leisurely drive down to Nightcliff Beach.
“I was so happy when Donesha advised that this year was the year to get her driver’s licence. Now her confidence has improved so much and she’s ready for the next steps,” Edith said.
Now, building on this success in her journey, she’s enrolled to study a Certificate III in Community services, has attained her Working with Children’s Check, and is looking for work.
“There’s more to come, and I know my licence will take me there,” Donesha said, “I wouldn’t have done it without Bamara and the help and understanding from Edith.”
