Hanshi moved to Australia 10 years ago from China to pursue her studies in Speech Pathology. In 2025, as she began her work placement, she was looking for support to help her balance the demands of study, placement, and family life.

While completing her placement, Hanshi heard about Parent Pathways and connected with our Palmerston team to explore how the service could support her.

Together with Senior Support Mentor Edith, they developed a Goal Plan tailored to help Hanshi complete her master’s degree while managing the competing demands of work placement, study and family responsibilities.

Through Hanshi’s Individual Support fund, Edith provided Hanshi with engagement support vouchers to help cover essential necessities. Additionally, to support her study goals, she supplied Hanshi with a laptop and covered the cost of her textbooks, and a portion of her course cost fee and workshops.

As well as the financial support, Edith and the Palmerston team became some of Hanshi’s biggest supporters, encouraging her every step of the way and helping her stay motivated to reach the finish line.

“Every time I got a phone call from Edith, I got the push to keep going,” Hanshi said.

By June 2026, just one year after first connecting with Parent Pathways, Hanshi had completed her Master’s Degree in Speech and Language therapy, and stepped straight into a role as a Speech Pathologist.

Although she has finished studying, Hanshi says one of the things she loves most about her career is that there is always something new to learn, with every day bringing a new challenge to solve.

Hanshi’s determination and hard work have been key to her success, and the support she received from Edith and the Palmerston team gave her the extra encouragement she needed to achieve her goals.

“Edith is amazing, I give her a 20 out of 10! It was a very pleasing experience; I recommend all my friends who are eligible to come to Bamara. I truly thank you,” Hanshi said.
