Katelin forges a new career path into support work 

After working as a customer care consultant in the telecommunications industry, Katelin was ready for a change and sought something different. She wasn’t just looking for a job; she was searching for a sustainable career. 

Katelin first reached out to our team in Aitkenvale through the Parent Pathways service in December 2024.

Since starting her journey under the guidance of Bamara Support Mentor Yogeeta, she has made significant progress in pursuing her career goals and studying for a qualification that aligns with her personal values and career aspirations. 

“The help I’ve had has made all the difference, I feel like I’m finally on the right path,” Katelin said.  

“I’m 100% enjoying my studies, its a really important goal of mine as I like helping people.”

Her clear goals laid the groundwork for our team to develop a focused and effective Goal Plan.

With a specific career path in mind, Yogeeta took the foundations and carried it forward to outline the necessary steps to achieve both her short-term and long-term goals. 

Additionally, the plan simplified her decision-making and aligned her goals with her responsibilities as a mum with two kids, helping her to identify suitable opportunities with confidence as they came into play.

“My mentors are really cool; they’ve been helpful, understanding, and made me feel welcome. They go above and beyond for me, which is awesome,” Katelin said.

“I’m now getting back on my feet and studying, to get my life on track. I couldn’t have done it without Bamara.”

Katelin’s immediate short-term goals included renewing her driver licence, which was a crucial step toward gaining independence and improving her chances of employment.  

Additionally, she utilised Yogeeta’s local knowledge of Townsville to research and identify suitable courses and local training providers that offered the face-to-face training she was seeking.  

Together, they found a training provider that was a great fit and got the ball rolling on her enrolment in a Certificate III in Individual Support, making sure she qualified for the Certificate 3 Guarantee (C3G) program.  

Yogeeta is proud of the progress Katelin has made in her journey, knowing that she is contributing to her growth and happiness. 

“Katelin’s determination has been inspiring. She is worked hard to overcome challenges and has shown resilience every step of the way,” Yogeeta said.  

“Watching her progress towards a career in support work has been so rewarding.”  

Through Parent Pathways, Bamara also provided Katelin with access to financial support to cover her driver licence renewal fee and purchase a laptop to keep up with her studies from home. 

With every step forward, Katelin is feeling more confident about her future, knowing she’s building the skills to achieve her career goals.
