Getting your licence isn’t just about the card in your wallet; it’s the key to independence and an exciting step into new opportunities.

For Kyhlie Doolan, getting her licence has been a goal since she left school. Now, at the age of 52, she has finally reached this significant milestone.

Kyhlie, a proud Kamilaroi woman born and bred in Moree, walked into our Moree office in January 2025 after seeing our driving lesson cars around town to find out what she needed to do to sign up to the Driver Licensing Access Program (DLAP).

It was there she met Driver Mentors Kerry and Jimmy, who became her biggest supporters on the journey. Over time, Kyhlie formed a strong bond with both mentors, which boosted her confidence and kept her motivated.

By March 2025, her hard work paid off when she successfully passed the Driver Knowledge Test and received her L Plates.

With the first big milestone complete, she jumped right into driving lessons to prepare for the Hazard Perception Test and the driving test.

At first, getting behind the wheel felt daunting, but with each lesson her confidence grew. Attending two sessions a week, Kyhlie embraced every opportunity to learn, approaching each day with enthusiasm.

When the day finally came to get her red P’s, all the anticipation started to catch up, and nerves were high.

“When the day for the test came around, I felt like I would be sick with anxiety. Thank God Jimmy took me on a drive beforehand! It calmed my nerves and gave me some extra confidence,” Kyhlie said.

That last-minute boost made all the difference. Kyhlie passed both tests on her very first attempt!

Now, with her long-term goal finally reached, and recently having purchased a car of her own, she’s ready to embrace her independence and hit the road – and Kerry and Jimmy couldn’t be happier for her.

“Jim and I are so proud of Kyhlie. She has put in the hard yards and not one day did she miss a lesson. We will miss her weekly lessons,” Kerry said.

Kyhlie has shown endless gratitude to Bamara and her mentors for supporting her to get to where she is today.

“Thank you, Kerry, Jim, and the team at Bamara for giving me this opportunity. I couldn’t be happier with the support I’ve been given, and I’m so grateful,” Kyhlie said.
