In early March 2026, Miru connected with the Alice Springs team through the Transition to Work program, eager to explore his options and take the next step toward employment.

The team referred him to a local training program focused on building confidence, developing practical skills, and preparing participants for the workforce.

By the end of the program, Miru showed a noticeable shift in confidence and motivation to find a job where he could truly thrive.

With support from Youth Mentor Nicole, Miru explored his skills, strengths, and what his ideal job could look like.

Later that month, an employer reached out to the team looking for a suitable candidate. Nicole immediately knew that Miru would make a great fit.

She arranged an interview at Bamara’s Alice Spring office, and Miru arrived feeling confident and self-assured.

That confidence paid off as later that afternoon, he received the call to say he had secured the job.

Today, Miru is working in a casual role with a local employer, where he takes on a variety of tasks including lawn maintenance and cleaning. He also has the opportunity to learn new skills and explore other areas of the business as he grows in the role.

Through the Transition to Work fund, Nicole was able to help Miru access Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), along with a hat and sunglasses to keep him sun-safe while working outdoors.

Miru is also receiving on-the-job training, with ongoing support from both his employer and Nicole to help ensure his continued success.

“He’s been to work every day, he’s learning all new skills, and he’s stepping outside of his comfort zone – I’m so proud of him,” Nicole, Youth Mentor, said.

With consistent support and a team committed to bringing out the best in him, Miru is building confidence, developing new skills, and creating a strong foundation for his future.
