Rachelle, a proud Miriwoong woman who grew up in Western Australia, moved to Darwin 12 years ago. As a devoted mother of three, she spent the last 15 years focused on raising her kids. Now, with her kids growing up and her future goals becoming clearer, Rachelle felt ready to take the next steps toward building a career and pursuing further opportunities.

Rachelle connected with our team in March 2025, joining the Parent Pathways service which we deliver in Palmerston.

Working closely with Senior Support Mentor Edith, they developed a goal plan that included obtaining her Learner’s Licence, finding employment, and pursuing studies further down the track.

At first, Rachelle’s confidence that she would be able to find a job despite 15 years out of the workforce was quite low – but, with Edith’s encouragement and guidance, she was able to build confidence and momentum.

Through Rachelle’s Individual Support fund, Edith helped her access a mobile phone, appropriate work clothing, engagement support vouchers, and a police check to support her job search and licence application. Edith also provided Rachelle with a Letter of Support to provide a positive reference for Rachelle to use in her resume, which helped to build her confidence up even more.

Parent Pathways helped Rachelle break her goals down into achievable steps, giving her the kind of support that boosted her confidence and made a real difference for her and her family.

As of July 2025, Rachelle’s hard work and determination has paid off. She has proudly achieved two major milestones: earning her Learner’s Licence and securing employment working as an Administration Clerk.

“It’s a very happy and proud feeling at the same time. I thought I couldn’t do it, but I had to push myself. I was surprised at what I achieved, knowing that I put my mind to it,” Rachelle said.

Senior Support Mentor, Edith, is equally as happy and proud of Rachelle and the effort she put into achieving these goals.

“I’m always happy with Rachelle. She thought it would be hard to get back into work after such a long time. I was happy to give her the local support she needed,” Edith said.

Rachelle credits Edith’s support as a key part of her success and is deeply grateful for the guidance she received.

“Edith offered me a lot of support, always willing into listen to the support that we needed. She’s been very supportive of everything I’ve come and asked for. For other participants, if you really want to pursue a career, or get your studies going – Bamara is out there and willing to help,” Rachelle said.

With everything she’s accomplished in just a few months, we’re confident Rachelle will continue to achieve great things as she builds her future.
