After more than 15 years in finance, Serena experienced a pivotal moment in her life with the birth of her child. Having devoted herself to her career and earning a living, she decided to step back from the workforce to focus on caring for a young child at home and finding balance and stability in her life.
Through Bamara, she has made significant progress since she teamed up with her Support Mentor, Edith, who guided her during the transition and helped establish a strong foundation for her future.
They have taken a structured approach together, with Serena recently reaching a significant milestone by gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
“It means so much with her support; I can always send her a message for advice,” said Serena.
“Edith makes you feel comfortable and welcoming; you can see she loves her job and working with her clients.”
When Serena connected with our team in Palmerston, her main goals were to kickstart her studies, find work, and begin a career to determine if it would be financially beneficial for her family. Serena has found Bamara’s service more personalised, offering her the structure, belief and balance she needed to jumpstart her career goals.
Edith also connected Serena with a local training provider that equipped her with the necessary skills and knowledge. She completed her training in December 2024, where she obtained a Certificate III in Business.
“I never owned a laptop; there is no reason you can’t study without Bamara under your wing.
“You have all the support you need from people who care, and Edith has been right on the ball with everything,” Serena said.
Serena has a clear vision for her future. She is motivated to pursue further studies that align with her long-term personal and professional goal of becoming a support or care worker.
Edith continues to provide ongoing support for Serena through the Parent Pathways service, which is crucial in helping Serena stay on track with her personal and career goals. This support assists her in sticking to timelines and balancing the most important job of all: being a mum.
For Edith, seeing Serena succeed reflects the effectiveness of her guidance. It brings a sense of fulfilment, knowing that she is contributing to Serena’s growth and happiness as both a parent and an individual.
“Her confidence has improved so much, and it brings me so much joy to see Serena breaking the ice and thriving,” Edith said.
We congratulate Serena on her hard work and determination and wish her success in the future.
