Sherwin finds the spark to kickstart an apprenticeship

Sherwin is committed to building a long-lasting career for himself, and his strong drive is clear to everyone he meets.

Sherwin connected with our Alice Springs team through the Transition to Work program in May 2025, with two clear goals of getting a driver licence and kickstarting a career in a trade through an apprenticeship.

Today Sherwin is honing his practical skills as a full-time Trade Assistant Boilermaker/Metal Fabricator Apprentice. He approaches each day at work with a strong work ethic, a smile and positive attitude, and consistent enthusiasm to the job site every day.

He teamed up with Bamara Youth Job Mentor, Warren, in January 2026 to build momentum towards achieving his Goal Plan.

Warren helped Sherwin access funding to ensure he was work-ready, assisting him with work clothing, tools and equipment, driving lessons to gain confidence on the road, a National Police Check, and a Working with Children Check (Ochre Card).

Sherwin reached a major milestone in March 2026 by obtaining his provisional license. To further boost his career prospects, he is now completing manual driving lessons that directly benefit his current daily work.

Looking ahead, Sherwin has enrolled in a forklift training course starting in July 2026 as part of his continued professional development with Warren providing the ongoing support he needs while on the job.

“Sherwin has a bright future ahead of him becoming a Boiler Maker,” Warren, Youth Job Mentor, said.
