Our Support Workers and three participants at Bamara Care recently visited Sydney to see the VIVID festival and experience some city tourism, as part of our NDIS services.

The plan for this trip was to take our participants to explore Sydney’s colourful displays and entertainment during the VIVID festival. Over two days, participants experienced an action-packed schedule, with activities centred in and around Darling Harbour.

“We wanted participants to be as independent as possible,” said David, Program Manager.

Participants were given the freedom to choose the activities they wished to experience. This busy itinerary started with touring the attractions of VIVID lights from front row seats on a harbour cruise and walking around the harbour. Staying in a hotel in the heart of the city, participants were in the perfect spot to venture out to activities.

The next day was full of even more excitement. Travelling around the city and harbour, highlights of the day included visiting Sea Life, Darling Harbour and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. After a busy day, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant near the hotel.

All three participants expressed how much fun they had as Sydney tourists for a few days. Through making the decisions about where to visit and what to do, participants took control to create the adventures they wanted.

“They experienced life away from their families and saw Sydney from the aspect of a tourist,” said David.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this VIVID trip possible. Adventuring out to see Sydney was an amazing experience for both the participants who attended and the support team that joined.

A big thank you goes out to support workers Dannielle and Dequahn for their hard work in planning and attending the trip and ensuring the whole experience was a success.
